History of the Area
The Notary’s House is located in Sri Lanka’s Western Province, an area rich with history and culture still thriving today. While the careful renovation of The Notary’s House means that Sri Lankan history is right at your fingertips, don’t miss out on the many historical attractions all around you. Just an hour’s drive away is the capital city of the Western Province, Kurunegala. An ancient kingdom and governing site of the three kings of Sri Lanka, Kurunegala holds many historical artefacts and sites, including the relics of the ancient capital Panduwasnuwara. These ancient ruins can still be seen today, and have become a popular place to visit for tourists interested in the incredible history of Sri Lanka. Back in the tranquillity of The Notary’s House, history is not forgotten either. Throughout the property, standout elements include batik wall hangings, which were commissioned as an ode to Sri Lanka’s heraldic flag tradition. Additionally, a portrait of the notary, after whom the house is named, hangs tastefully integrated with the house’s décor, and has been wonderfully preserved. So amidst the peace flowing from the sun-dappled pool, and as you sit back with a cocktail on your holiday, the designers of The Notary’s House have beautiful integrated authenticity and luxury, so you can not only experience exquisite Sri Lankan hospitality, but its history too.
