Why Costa Rica?

Pure in wildlife, pure in culture, and one of the happiest countries in the world, nestled between the Caribbean and the Pacific Oceans, Costa Rica’s range of landscapes are a never-before-seen bio-diverse environment. Meaning ‘rich coast’ in Spanish, Costa Rica inspires travellers to reconnect to nature, and immerse themselves in all it has to offer. While relatively small, Costa Rica is a megadiverse country, holding 5% of the world’s species, which are under fierce protection of the government. Money previously used on the army is being used to protect the environment, and improve health and education – an unusual move for a country, but one that is demonstrably having positive impacts, such as curbing deforestation.

30 National Parks are spread throughout the country, covering 25% of the land, as well as three UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, La Amistad Reserve and National Park, and Cocos Island National Park. From one day to the next you could be trekking through cloud forest on the trail of indigenous birds, white water rafting down the iconic Pacuare river, lazing on a paradise beach, ziplining through tree-tops, cruising along the shallows at sunset, canyoning, or hiking around one of the 200 volcanic formations.

The diversity of wildlife here is something out of National Geographic – with over 500,000 types of species in total, and over 900 species of bird. We’re talking bright toucans, howler monkeys, vibrant poison-dart frogs, resplendent quetzals, rainbow-coloured macaws, mighty crocodiles, three-toed sloths, over 50 species of hummingbird, and plenty more. A mixture of cultures has led to a vibrant and blended country, with many holidays centering around religion. Costa Ricans – locally known as ‘Ticos’ – are some of the friendliest people, and are polite and laid-back – creating an atmosphere of happiness and relaxation.
