Leroo La Tau

The eleven luxury safari rooms are thatched and glass-fronted chalets, each one positioned on the high banks of the Boteti River on a raised wooden platform that overlooks the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. From your private balcony, you will be able to sit back on a comfortable lounger and gaze down at the abundant elephants and zebras. The rooms are furnished with a soft double bed or two twin beds, as well as plush armchairs and a writing desk.

The large windows and glass sliding doors to the balcony mean that you can enjoy panoramic views of the wildlife from the comfort of your own bed. The spacious en-suite bathrooms feature elegant double basins, fluffy towels, an indoor shower and flush toilet, and a range of African biodegradable soaps and toiletries will be supplied in addition to shower caps and insect repellent. Hairdryers are also available from the lodge.

The luxury family room is ideal for a family wanting to enjoy a comfortable safari experience. The chalet is a thatched and glass-fronted suite, positioned close to the main area and is easily accessible. As with the other luxury rooms, the family room is furnished with a soft double bed as well as two twin beds. Each room contains luxurious armchairs, a writing desk and large windows and glass sliding doors to the balcony providing 270-degree views of the stunning wildlife.

Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom, featuring elegant double basins, fluffy towels, an indoor shower and a flush toilet. A range of African biodegradable soaps and toiletries will be supplied in addition to shower caps and insect repellent. Hairdryers are also available from the lodge.

Start the day with a light continental breakfast before setting off on your morning activity, and return to a delicious brunch buffet before relaxing at camp for the afternoon. Once afternoon activities are over, enjoy tempting sweet and savoury treats accompanied with afternoon tea, coffee or freshly-made lemonade. Snacks and nibbles will be available in the evening before you sit down for a delectable three-course meal prepared by Leroo La Tau’s expert chefs.

For your main course, the camp offers a delicious buffet so that guests can choose from a range of mouth-watering options before finishing with a tasty dessert or something from the cheeseboard. Meals are served in the camp’s dining area within the main area, adjacent to the cocktail bar, or can also be enjoyed outside under a canopy of stars.

Set off on an exciting game drive along the Boteti River and marvel at the massive herds of zebra within the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. Drive up close to giant grey elephants and stocky wildebeest, and watch them behave in their natural habitat from the safety of the safari vehicle. The Leroo La Tau’s experienced guides will teach you about the extraordinary creatures that live beside the Boteti River, as well as showing you the perfect spots for viewing game.

Visit the local Khumaga Village and learn about Botswana and the Boteti River from local people. Visiting Khumaga Village will also enable guests to learn about the collaborative projects that Desert and Delta Safaris have been working on with the local communities, and how these iniatives support the village.

Guests staying a minimum of three nights at Leroo La Tau will be able to venture to Nxai Pan National Park for a day trip. Guests will set out first thing in the morning so that they can make the most of their time at Nxai Pan, and you will also be able to visit Baines Baobabs, a remote group of baobab trees discovered and painted by explorer Thomas Baines, that have stood for millennia. Lunch will be provided and served to guests while they are at Nxai Pan.

Leroo La Tau is a Desert & Delta Safaris camp. Desert & Delta Safaris support a variety of initiatives that work with the local communities. Leaders For The Future helps develop Botswana as a leading eco-tourism destination. By providing bursaries for tourism education, Desert & Delta ensure that when students have finished their studies through this program, they are “guaranteed work placements and career opportunities within the local travel industry.”

Deserts & Delta’s Youth Trainee Development Program creates opportunities in the workplace for youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. By working with the Khumaga Primary school, Desert & Delta Safaris are able to give career guidance and offer day trips to the Makgadikgadi National Park to inspire and educate children in a career in tourism. In addition, their Tsidillo Stimulation Centre offers support for children in Maun who suffer from learning, mental and physical disabilities.

Due to the remote location of their lodges, Desert & Delta Safaris employ a full-time company doctor who visits the properties, “ensuring that the best medical advice and mentoring for all our staff is freely available.” The doctor regularly visits each of the properties within the circuit so that they can become familiar with staff members and their individual medical needs. HIV/AIDS testing, anti-retroviral treatment and psychological support are all vital necessities that the doctor can offer, and this is all funded by Desert and Delta Safaris.

Desert & Delta Safaris have their own Citizen Development Program, which educates and mentors Botswana citizens, helping them “acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to attain employment as camp managers.” As a result of this program, Botswana citizens have been able to exclusively manage all Desert & Delta Safari camps since 2014. Desert & Delta Safaris Empowerment of Women in the Workplace initiative is another program that aims to provide equal opportunities by addressing the existing gender divide within the travel sector. 50% of the current camp management team is now female, highlighting the important role women play in management positions. Additionally, Chobe Lodge, another Desert and Delta Safari camp, is home to Africa’s first all-female safari guiding team.

Desert & Delta Safaris understand the challenges, both culturally and spiritually, that their staff face from working in a remote location. To help maintain health and happiness, a staff wellness team exclusively coordinate visits from a spiritual leader and the company Pastor. Desert & Delta Safaris believe “this support structure ensures a healthy, happy and welcoming soul.”

Further funding and raising awareness for the Botswana Rhino Relocation and Reintroduction Program is one of Desert & Delta Safaris main endeavours. This initiative involves key Government departments working together with the private sector as a team to help protect the country’s rhino population.

With a commitment to sustainable tourism development, Chobe Game Lodge has introduced the first electric powdered, emission-free safari vehicles and boats. This not only offers a quieter safari experience, but also lowers carbon emissions and fuel consumption. Solar power and greywater treatment plants are used at various Desert & Delta Safari lodges, which conserves energy and resources, lightening their carbon footprint.
