An original gunpowder room dating back to 18^th century French colonial Mauritius, this elegant space recreates the charm of a bygone era. With rustic stone walls and floors, antique wine barrels and chandeliers, the Gunpower Room exudes sophistication. Traditional Creole cuisine is served all week from Monday to Friday in the evenings and in addition, an Omakase Japanese menu is available for dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Our bar is located outside, with a traditional thatched roof overhead and endless ocean vistas in front. Music is played here every evening on the ebony piano and the gentle melodies are carried along by the equally gentle sea breeze. You can comfortably sit at a rustic oak table or on a plush sofa, where you can enjoy cocktails, champagne, prestige wines and local Mauritian rums.

Reserved for weekend evenings, The Herb Trail hosts a unique communal al-fresco dining experience, with an underground fire pit and smoke house accompanying a herb garden. A fulfilling four-course menu features dishes slow-cooked in the underground fire pit which has been built specifically for this purpose.

Delicacies include a sharing platter of smoke house meat and seafood, moist lamb slow-cooked for the whole day in the fire pit and carefully hand-crafted desserts.

In addition to the two onsite swimming pools, the private boathouse offers a range of complimentary nautical activities for resort guests, including glass bottom boat rides, hobie cat sailing, laser sailing, sea kayaking, water skiing, stand-up paddle, wind surfing, pedalo boating and snorkelling trips to the Turtle Bay marine park, all supervised by a professional. All necessary equipment and protective wear is provided by the boathouse.

For an extra cost, guests can head to the boathouse to enjoy bird’s eye views over the gardens, Turtle Bay, Port Louis and Grand Baie by going parasailing, lifting you high in the air from the back of a motor boat. Turtle Bay is also the place to go for a spot of Scuba Diving.

PADI diving is done under professional instructors for beginners, advanced divers and photographers alike and participants can discover the pristine coral reefs inhabited by colourful marine life. If you’re feeling a bit more daring, you can venture out to far deeper waters and explore the shark pit. You can also try a range of sea dives, night dives, private dives, underwater photography and dive safari trips, all of which are supervised by a certified PADI dive master.

SOS Children’s Villages provide family-based care for parentless, homeless or abandoned children.

SOS Children’s Villages provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment where vulnerable children can access education, nutrition, healthcare and family-based care. Each village consists of 12-15 homes, with every home accommodating up to ten children and an SOS ‘mother’. The children stay in these family homes under the care of the ‘mother’ and grow up with their siblings and friends.

The Oberoi Group with SOS Children’s Villages provides for the upbringing and education to 210 parentless, homeless or abandoned children living in SOS Children’s Villages in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Cochin, Jaipur and Kolkata. The Oberoi Group also sponsors higher education through Bachelors Programs of 61 youths at various professional institutes.
