Victoria Falls River Lodge

Hidden among the trees on the banks of the secluded Kandahar Island and accessible by boat only, all of the 4 magnificent, 95 square metre Island Treehouses can accommodate a maximum of two guests (16 years and older) and feature a host of luxury conveniences, an elegantly appointed sitting area, a spacious en-suite bathroom and a private deck, complete with plunge pool.

The lodge is home to a “blue ribbon” style kitchen that cooks delicious food of both local and international cuisines. There is a wood-fired pizza oven that creates gorgeous gourmet pizzas and bread, and you can enjoy these in the heavenly dining area under the stars.

Victoria Falls River Lodge and the Zambezi National Park are a bird watcher’s paradise. Here, birding enthusiasts are able to view a great diversity of birds within their rainforest, riverine, gorge and savannah habitats.

Local species include Rock Pratincole, Schalow’s Turaco, African Finfoot, Half Collared Kingfisher, Thick Billed Weaver, African Skimmer, Pels Fishing Owl, Collared Palm Thrush and Western Banded Snake Eagle, among hundreds more. Guests at Victoria Falls River Lodge seldom need to travel too far from their private decks to view these birds, as the luscious foliage surrounding the lodge offers ample opportunity to enjoy the variety of bird life that Zimbabwe has to offer.

The Upper Zambezi is home to a wide array of fish and Victoria Falls River Lodge offers half-day guided fishing trips that leave directly from the Lodge. Tiger fishing is a particular highlight and a unique experience on this iconic river. Fishing from the jetty is also an option.

Junior Discoverers Drive (incl. snacks and soft beverages)

• Aimed at children aged 4-7 years accompanied by at least 1 parent – subject to vehicle capacity
• Outside of standard Game Drive times – timing is seasonal and in consultation with management
• Families wishing to take children aged 4 – 7 years on game drive during standard early morning / late afternoon game drive times (i.e. not Junior Discoverers Drive) will require a sole use game viewer – per details above.
• Embrace the outdoors like a true African Explorer
• Join the Guide in his trusty 4×4 and bravely head into the ‘great unknown’ – learning all about the fascinating fauna and flora of its wild surrounds

Boat Cruise (incl. snacks and soft beverages)

• Children aged 0-3 years are not permitted on river cruises
• Children aged 4 years and older are permitted on the river cruises
• Management reserves the right to remove any unruly/disruptive children from the vessel and return them to Camp before resuming the cruise.

Young Bush Wackers

• Take a walk on the “wild side” and discover numerous natural wonders right on the doorstep
• Conducted by a qualified guide within camp surrounds and river banks immediately in front of the Lodge
• Geared for children ages 4-11 years (although older siblings and parents are welcome too!)

The Zambezi Crescent Collection prides itself on providing free schooling to all pre-schoolers living in the National Park’s Staff Village. In keeping with the true African culture of vast and extended family structures, this offer is inclusive of not only children of Parks’ employees, but also relatives of those employed by the National Park and even the children of friends of Park’s employees who live in the Zambezi National Park Staff Village.

Zambezi Crescent Preschool, opened in January 2018 and consisting of more than 15 children, is located just a few metres from the children’s homes in the Staff Village. Children have the freedom to walk to school and back, supervised by an adult, on a daily basis. School begins at 8am and finishes at 12pm in summer, and in winter it opens at 9am and closes at 1pm.

The Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit (VFAPU) is an NGO dedicated to the conservation of local wildlife and natural resources. The VFAPU protects the wildlife and natural habitat from poachers and their pressure (subsistence and commercial). It also rescues and rehabilitates animals injured by human interference.

Zambezi Crescent Collection contributes towards VFAPU’s fundraising efforts and donates on a regular (monthly) basis. Should an incident of poaching arise nearby, Zambezi Crescent Collection offers resources to aid and assist the VFAPU rangers during their rescue and rehabilitation operations.
