Mel Marshall

Reservations Executive - Team Leader

In 2020 I graduated from the University of Lincoln with first-class honours in BA (Hons) International Tourism Management. Throughout my time at university my speciality was sustainability. I went on to write a thesis on the Carbon Offsetting Scheme and evaluate its success from the perspective of stakeholders. If you had asked me when I was five what I wanted to do, I would have told you I wanted to be a teacher.

My journey into the tourism industry was a surprising choice. However, I believe that everything happens for a reason and this is a decision which if I had a time machine I would not change. After graduation, I started working for The Pure Breaks and during this time I have been promoted to team leader, which has improved my confidence.

Throughout my time here I have been able to complete various exciting and unique itineraries for all over the world. It gives me a sense of pride to know someone will take part in a trip that I helped produce for the website. My hobbies include watching Harry Potter, spending time with my three beautiful dogs, spending time with my incredible family and boyfriend and reading British Classic Literature including Charlotte Brontё and Jane Austen.

What do you love most about travelling?

The excitement! For me, there is nothing more exhilarating than sitting on a plane leaving your home. Of course, I miss the people who are most important to me. However, there is something about getting to experience a new culture, foods and an incredible new community. This feeling never changes.

What country do you want to visit next Mel?

This is an incredibly hard question to be able to answer. As someone who respects and loves to educate themselves on different cultures of the world. There would not be just one country I would want to visit. I have always had a top ten list of the countries I want to go to. However, if I had to pick one, I would pick Japan; Japan’s culture is captivating. They have traditions that date back thousands of years but their culture is also improving in technological advancements, which the whole world is yet to discover. Japan’s culture is the epitome of developments for the world and this is one place you would want to visit.
