Janita Purcell

Creative Writing Executive

I am a film and television graduate of University of the Arts, London, majoring in scriptwriting in this degree. This course has given me the ability to work as a producer, runner, script supervisor and train in a TV studio before ultimately focusing on writing within the degree itself. I was awarded a high 2.1 at university and was also the sole producer on a short film that was showcased in an official Kubrick event at London College of Communication. Having been writing throughout my university degree before starting at Pure Breaks, I have written for Unsettled Magazine, an online and print publication also based in London, focusing on topics such as culture and music as these are two things that I am incredibly interested in.

I am passionate about many things including sustainability, music and art of all kinds. My writing for Pure Breaks focuses on sustainability, more specifically within travel. Whilst my work focuses on writing I also work with graphics and art to elevate my personal work and have interests in all mediums of art such as painting. My goal is to work within music journalism, having already written pieces such as music reviews and think pieces for online forums.

My writing style is informal but informative and blends the visual with the written. I hope to engage my readers and continue to write freelance within this field before ultimately pursuing a master’s degree in Popular Music Research. I ultimately hope this leads me to music journalism or having the opportunity to be an author. My writing at Pure Breaks is a stepping stone which is something I care deeply about and knowing that I am writing for an ethical company is incredibly important to me.

What was the first destination you visited growing up?

A holiday I took a lot growing up was visiting Aberdovey which was the one time the entire family would be free for the weekend to explore together. That place means a lot to my parents so we made it a regular thing in summer that we would all go and visit as a family on weekends.

What is your dream destination and why?

My dream destination is Punjab, India as this is where my mum and her family are from and I’ve never had the chance to visit with her myself.
